POTATOES: Make a potroast with carrots and potatoes, onions and seasonings and beef broth and tomato paste, simmer for hours and hours. Then invite your Uncle John and cousins Chrissy and Johanna for dinner. Voila, your 5#of potatoes will be gone!!!

Delighted to have found your blogs. Just finished reading all your posts on JUIorLI. Keep up the good work! Did you actually do canning this summer? I too am a teacher smitten with the season (and the adrenaline). And thanks for the Tropper recommendation. Me, I am gaga over Danny Wallace books, and any book that enlightens me about food.

i am so in love with jonathan tropper, i can hardly even handle it. if he lived closer, i might be tempted to stalk him. or ask him out to dinner. or take his class. something. instead, i'll just wait patiently for his next book.

love the song "look at miss ohio"--it is currently one of my favorite songs to belt out in my car when i'm actually in it by myself or when my kids will tolerate my singing. gillian welch rocks.

i am, of course, loving top chef and project runway these days. and i just caught my first episode of the rachel zoe project--LOVED IT! and i needed a little more bravo in my life. i am still attached to gray's anatomy, lost, and brothers and sisters, so i will be looking forward to those premieres!

i have nothing to say about vampires except that i tried the first teenage vampire books of the series people are crazy over--drawing a blank on the names--and i just don't seem inspired to go back for more.

last random thought for you: my own random SEE IT: 2 movies: away we go and 500 days of summer. these movies are like my jonathan tropper of movies right now. love them.

Do you know that we DVR a whopping five shows (Barefoot Contessa, Charlie Rose, 30Rock, The Office, and Top Chef) and I haven't watched a single episode of any of them in well over a month. Seriously, we may as well just not have a TV.

I can actually say that I don't watch a single tv show on regular basis anymore.......when they bring back MacGyver and Dawson's Creek I will be tuned in.

Yippee!!! You're back! First of all, my kids love Tom and Jerry, too! It's not as strong as the Scooby obsession, but they're requesting to see it regularly. I'm going to try the new author and always am appreciative of the suggestions. Though it doesn't start for a while, 24 is awesome if you like action shows. We look forward to it every week and it is the only show we DVR. That's all I got except to say GOOD LUCK with the new schedule!!! Rita

I don't have any good responses to your questions at the moment, (seems the blogging slump is not just at your house), but wanted to let you know how impressed I am about your foray back into teaching. It IS exhausting, especially when you're not used to it. I love the first day photos too. Can't wait to post my own next week!

Glad to hear that teaching is going so well, although I had no doubt that you would be a raging success.

The old cartoons are what got me interested in classical music as a kid, it's nice to know they still have impact.

I read the review of This Is Where I Leave You in EW and meant to add it to my to-read list. Reading The Motion of the Ocean By Janna Cawrse Esarey. Halfway through and loving it.

I have the entire Sookie Stackhouse series on my bedside table but I haven't read them yet. I've heard mixed reviews. HOWEVER, we just finished watching the first season of True Blood (through Netflix since we don't have HBO, sigh) and I am totally hooked.
